Whew.

And we're back.

Had a crazy couple of weeks there, what with lead-up to Luminaria and teching the national tour of The 39 Steps. Dave's had Steps on the brain for a year and Luminaria for at least half that, working nights, eating away from home, etc. This past Monday was the day we'd circled on the calendar, the one we repeated like a mantra, because it was when we'd get our lives back.

Of course we filled it to the gills like crazy people. Massages, brunch, a trip to the library to return a book, trips to plant nurseries, garden work, a trip to Costco to stock up, a reception for Luminaria planners. We finally sank onto the couch around 9:30, and Dave promptly fell asleep.

So I enjoyed the couch by myself, with my tea and my bossa nova Pandora station and my 19 library books about homesteading. (More on that soon.)

Homesteading of the urban variety, or are y'all going all little-house-on-the-prairie? Blgtn recently passed ordinances that you can keep chickens within city limits. I think I'm far more interested in having honey on hand. Probably more important for me to keep chipping away at all the craziness inside our house before I start thinking about adding critter craziness outside our house. Plus, D would insist on adding a dog first and foremost. But, bees and honey...!

Urban homesteading. Lots of cities are addressing chickens -- some folks need the cheap protein, others just want the connection to their food sources. San Antonio allows chickens -- even roosters, though we don't want one, just the hens.

Bees would have lots of goodies to dip into in your yard and neighborhood!

Have you checked out the Foxfire series? Lots of helpful tips there, but of course more rural. I love them.

Carrie - I've seen them but haven't taken the time to read closely. It's interesting how they group the topics.
