There's been a lot of discussion about book covers this past week -- one in particular, anyway -- and it got me thinking about my favorite covers.
What are yours? Do you go for iconic images? Photo over illustration, or vice versa? Words only? Will you buy a book for its cover? How often do you love a cover more than its book? Do covers matter to you at all?
Some of my favorites, with links to their GoodReads pages...

2 ate pie:
You picked some good ones!
Let's see...while I don't like the content, I do think the Twilight books had good covers.
I know a lot of authors don't like the covers that cut off a female's head, but I actually do. A Great and Terrible Beauty, the Study books by Marie Snyder, etc., have really good covers--I find the "hidden" woman on the covers to be intriguing.
Into the Wild's cover reminds me of Calpurnia Tate's cover (but I like Calpurnia's better). Laini Taylor's covers are also really unique.
Yes, Libba Bray has great covers. I can see how the Twilight series covers helped sales, too - red, black, and white are a powerful palette.
