So, yeah, I love lists of Things to Do in One's Lifetime, and also checking off those things as I do them. I'm totally not compulsive. Pinky swear.
Some folks scoff at such lists.
Some folks: Who is so-and-so to tell ME what I should do?
Me: Ooooo, new list?
Today, the Telegraph published a list of 100 novels someone at the Telegraph thinks we all should read before we become incapable of reading novels for whatever reason. (Thanks, Mr. Bransford, for the link.)
Normally, I find these lists whitey-centric, and since my List of Books I've Read is already very whitey-centric, I find them lacking. But this one is better than usual. It seems to have a good cross-section of literature, by which I mean: something from almost every continent (get with it, writerly scientists of Antartica!).
By my count I've read ten of the novels, but I'm busy with Middle Grade Madness. One of you other compulsive list-checker-offers jump on this and report back.

7 ate pie:
I read fifteen! But of the fifteen, almost all were assigned by a class, and I only like about 2 or 3 of them. (Although the 2 or 3 I liked, I loved). If you count all the ones I was supposed to have read for classes, well, then, I'd have finished about half of them.
I read 39! But mostly because Jane Austen, Tolstoy and Bronte are all on the list plus all the "assigned in high school" books.
I'll have to get started on the others.
I have read 12 and there's a few that I'd like to read, but haven't yet. A good chunk of the ones I read were read for school. They aren't the type of book I'd read for pleasure, but I still find them interesting for the styles, themes, imagery, etc.
Look at you awesome readers! I'll have to work my way through these in ebook format at some point.
First of all...The Historian--great. Lots of Eastern European history, rollicking traipses through monasteries and archives and libraries, mild but good creepiness, loved it.
Second...I'm on the computer at 6 am to do my part-time bookkeeping job and what do I see? A new book list?! I guess I can do my Quicken later. :)
Oh and one more thing...I see Criss Cross on Middle Grade Madness. I LOVED that book so much I wanted to find Lynne Rae Perkins and befriend her. In a not creepy way.
C - Books are always more fun than bookkeeping :) Thanks for the info on The Historian.
