Project: DAUGHTER OF THE DEAD (Novel)

Logline: Unable to get her father to talk about her dead mother, the daughter of a small-town mortician begins to seek -- and receive -- answers from his deceased clients.

Genre: YA Historical/Paranormal

Story Behind the Story: When my maternal grandmother was a little girl, her best friend was a mortician's daughter. The funeral home was in their house (which still stands in Bloomington, Indiana). When my grandmother told me this, she said, "If we came in from the backyard through the wrong door, we had to walk past the slab." That stuck with me, especially the idea that death must have been a very different thing for the girl who lived in the house versus her friends, who did NOT want to go in the wrong door.

Hi Shannon,

Congratulations!!! Isn't it neat that both of us placed in the SCBWI WIP grants? I am very happy for you. Your story sounds fascinating. Best of luck. Hope I get to read it soon.
